“AI wedding planner” is a phrase doing two jobs. Sometimes it means a chatbot that answers questions about weddings in general. Sometimes it means an assistant that can see your wedding and work on it. The first is a better search engine. The second is genuinely useful, and the gap between them is the whole of this guide.
What it is good at
Give it these
Reading things into the plan
A quote in an email, a PDF contract, a list of names from a parent. It reads them and files them where they belong, so nobody retypes a number.
Answering from your numbers
What is left to pay, which vendors are unbooked, how many have replied. Questions you would otherwise answer by opening four screens.
First drafts
A running order for the day, a brief for the florist, a polite chase to a photographer who has gone quiet. Drafts, which you then make yours.
Keeping lists honest
Adding the to-do you mentioned in passing, ticking off what you said is done, noticing the vendor with no deposit date.
What it should not do
Keep these
Decide what you like
It can describe a table setting in your palette. Whether it is right is yours to say, and so is every visual decision after it.
Cut the guest list
It can count, sort and tidy. Who comes is a conversation between the two of you and your families, not a prompt.
Write your vows
Not a line. The words are the one part of the day that has to be yours.
Move money
It can tell you what is due. Paying it is yours.
A good AI wedding planner is a very fast assistant with access to your files. It is not a planner, and the ones that claim to be are selling you the average wedding.
Three things to check before you trust one
Ask these of any tool
Does it work on your real plan?
If you have to paste your budget into a chat each time, it is a chatbot. If it can read the budget where you keep it, it is an assistant.
Can you decide what it may change?
Reading your budget and editing it are different permissions. You should be able to give one without the other, area by area.
Do both of you see what it did?
A change made in one person's chat is invisible to the other. A change made in the shared plan is not.
UNSTAGED does it this way round: the plan lives in UNSTAGED, shared by both of you, and Claude or ChatGPT connects to it. You choose, for the budget, guests, vendors, to-dos, timeline, moodboards and Decor, whether the assistant may read, edit or neither. The assistant you already use does the admin; the plan stays where both of you can see it.
How to connect Claude or ChatGPT, and what each area allows, is on the page for connecting an assistant.
Use the machine for the numbers, the lists and the drafts. Keep the taste, the guest list and the words. That split is the whole of what an AI wedding planner should be.
